“Human trafficking has not disappeared. It has hidden behind a screen. Today, victims are more invisible than ever. They are ghost sex workers. And Trentino is by no means immune to this transformation.” This is how criminologist Gabriele Baratto describes the phenomenon. According to the expert, trafficking for sexual exploitation has changed its form. Recruitment increasingly takes place through social media, Telegram and WhatsApp groups, using fake profiles and deceptive job offers. Prostitution has moved into private apartments. Victims are increasingly isolated, harder to identify, and more vulnerable to exploitation.
